because you listen to certain people who tell you ..."you don't have to file because it's unconstitutional"

I was penalized very heavily and the amount of interest is unbelievable,...after putting off the inevitable for almost 7 years they have finally caught up with me and they (CCRA) are going to give me a break in my amounts owing (where they could just as easily have had me sent to jail). I am not complaining about anything just thankful that I rise each morning in my own home, have breakfast with my children and my wife and head off to work...still a free man. Sometimes the simple things in life are the best things in life. Signed..A man who would rather get with the program than fight it.

I've filed many returns from people who, for an assortment of reasons, had put it off for one or more years. The usual outcome is that the government owes them money...about 10% of the non-filers in my experience have actually been ahead of the game while they were holding on to their returns.

CCRA has no reason to pursue non-filers who don't owe money and so they generally don't bother. With penalties being a percentage of the taxes owed, they'd have to start pursuing and prosecuting people for failing to collect their tax refunds, GST credit cheques and Child Tax Benefits.

With penalties and interest added to what you do owe and an overwhelming probability in most cases that you have a refund coming, there is never a good reason to skip filing a return. The detaxers haven't won a thing in court - ever. International Humanity House hasn't won a thing in court - ever. Follow these guys at your own peril and know that it will cost you money if you do.
