The Detaxers' Inappropriate Behavior Towards Others Unmasked

There is an old saying that a man is known by the company he keeps. In that spirit, I present sets of messages and portions of messages posted to the can.taxes newsgroup by Eldon Warman and several of his followers. These messages illustrate several inappropriate behaviors:

  • Gratuitous insults and slurs, verbiage inserted into a message for the sole purpose of denigrating or belittling a person with whom the detaxer disagrees. The verbiage is gratuitous because it adds nothing of substance, and can be deleted without altering any substantive content.
  • Hostile, confrontational, and/or downright profane language. Sometimes gratuitous. Includes words in all capital letters.
  • Messages which contain no substantive content whatsoever. Usually consist of nothing but gratuitous insults and slurs.
  • Dishonest quoting of what others have written.

The behavior of detaxers is relevant because of the great stock they place in the "Golden Rules":

  • "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you", the Golden Rule many of us learned as children, referred to by detaxers as the "Positive Golden Rule".
  • "Do not unto others as you would not be done by", referred to by Warman in his detax program as the "Negative Golden Rule".

In this context, it becomes relevant to examine how detaxers treat those with whom they disagree. Do they treat these people as they would wish to be treated? Do they not treat these people as they would not with to be treated? Or do they have two sets of standards, one set for themselves and one set for those with whom they disagree?

In all cases, the material presented contains the Message_ID: header, so that the reader may research the message for self if so desired.
